Safety, Health and Sustainability

Qube manages the BOMC facility in its entirety. Our safety goal is Zero Harm and this reflects our belief that we operate in an environment where risks are managed, and that work does not impact on our people’s health and well-being.

We believe that safety is about ensuring safe systems of work, and that we are continuously striving to provide a safe work place for our employees and a safe operating environment for our clients, vessels and cargo.

We are motivated towards building a Zero Harm culture, where all employees and contractors have the knowledge, competence and desire to work safely.

Strategy

Our safety strategy focuses on three areas:

  • Systems that are well designed and implemented. That there exists systematic identification, management and improvement in the areas of the business that can present risk. The safety, health and sustainability management systems (SHSMS) have been effectively implemented and auditing processes are in place to validate the consistency and sustainability of these processes.
  • Leadership that is clear, consistent and provides the vision and direction to achieve our goal of Zero Harm. We have established a Leadership Development Program to develop these skills, including practical SHS management and interactions to support employees doing their daily tasks.
  • Behaviours that engage everyone on the safety journey, reward good safety performance and hold people accountable and responsible for their actions in the workplace.

Our Standards

Qube has established the Critical Risks Elements, identifying tasks with the potential to cause fatalities and/or likely environmental harm across each of the business units. These elements are a set of mandatory minimum safety, health and environment requirements that apply to all Qube operations and controlled activities, and coincide with the Safety, Health and Sustainability Management System (SHSMS). They are a practical reference to assist with implementing the critical controls, and verification measures into work that involves critical risks.

Critical controls must be effectively implemented across Qube at all times. They are mandatory and must be in place for the effective management of the associated critical risk. Verification measures are the most important aspect of critical risk management, validating the effectiveness of the identified critical control. All verification measures must be met for a critical control to be considered as working effectively.
